Polyamory and ENM in Colombia

An Orby guide · November 1, 2026

Colombia has a growing polyamorous and ethically non-monogamous community, most visible in Bogotá, Medellín and Cali. Here’s how people find each other, what to read, what the law says, and how to meet safely.

Finding community

  • Most groups meet through Meetup and social media: search for “poliamor” or “no monogamia” with your city (Bogotá, Medellín, Cali).
  • LGBTIQ+ collectives and sexual-education workshops often host talks on relationships and agreements.
  • We’ll name groups here only once their organizers agree. Run one? Write to hello@joinorby.com.

Good reads in Spanish

  • Ética promiscua (Dossie Easton and Janet Hardy): the Spanish edition of The Ethical Slut, a classic first read.
  • Pensamiento monógamo, terror poliamoroso (Brigitte Vasallo): an essay that questions monogamy, and polyamory too.

What the law says

Colombia recognises marriage and de facto unions between two people, including same-sex couples (marriage since 2016). Relationships of three or more have no legal form of their own, although the Supreme Court has recognised a polyamorous family’s rights in a specific case (a survivor’s pension, 2022), and some have signed notarised agreements about property. For anything legal, ask a lawyer.

Meeting safely in Colombia

  • Meet in a busy public place, and get there and back on your own (a taxi or ride you book yourself).
  • Never accept an open drink, and don’t leave yours alone: there are robberies where people are drugged after a date arranged online (scopolamine, “burundanga”). The US Embassy warned about this in January 2024 (Medellín, Bogotá, Cartagena).
  • Tell a friend where you are, and share your location with them.
  • In danger, call 123.

How Orby helps

Orby’s waiting list is open in Colombia, and, from launch, every member is ID-verified before they can meet anyone. When 500 people within about 50 km of a city have joined, we get ready to open there, once we’ve checked it’s safe and legal for members.
