Swinging for beginners: etiquette, consent and safety
An Orby guide · November 1, 2026
Swinging is when couples share experiences with other people or couples, often together. The community runs on clear consent and good manners, which makes it easier for beginners than many expect.
Agree as a couple first
- What each of you is curious about, and what’s off the table. Many couples start with only socialising.
- A signal to pause or leave, which either of you can use without explaining.
- The couple’s limit is the stricter of your two limits, every time.
Etiquette everyone expects
- Always ask, and accept any answer graciously. “No thank you” is a complete sentence.
- Talk to both people in a couple, not just the one you like.
- No photos, and never share who you saw. Discretion protects everyone.
Sexual health
Talk about testing and protection before you meet anyone, as a couple and with others. It’s a normal, expected conversation in the community.
Your first event
- Start with a social meet-and-greet, where nobody expects anything.
- Stay sober enough to decide, and watch your drink.
- You can leave whenever you want, and you don’t owe anyone a reason.
After
Talk the next day about how it felt for each of you. Excitement, nerves and a little jealousy can all show up, and they’re all worth talking about.
How Orby helps
On Orby couples show as one card, both profiles linked, and each person says yes for themselves, privately, before anything starts. Every member is ID-verified, so the couples and people you meet are real. Inviting a third · Talking about fantasies.
